An independent guide to flying safely over Marrakech
Ochre & Sky is a booking desk and information guide, not a balloon operator ourselves. We work with a small number of DAC-licensed operators and publish honest information — including prices, safety standards and cancellation policy — so you can book with confidence.
Four checks every flight we list has to pass
DAC pilot licence on file
Every pilot must hold a current commercial balloon licence from Morocco's Direction de l'Aviation Civile, renewed annually with a medical certificate.
Equipment inspection records
Balloons and burners are inspected on a fixed schedule, with maintenance logs available on request from the operator.
Passenger insurance
Every flight includes liability insurance covering all passengers for the duration of the experience.
A written weather policy
No operator we list flies in marginal conditions to avoid a refund. Wind and visibility limits are set before the season starts, not decided on the morning.
The physics work in your favour
A hot air balloon has no complex flight-control surfaces and moves at the same speed as the wind around it — which is why the ride feels still rather than turbulent. Landings are typically a gentle bump rather than an impact, and pilots choose open fields well clear of obstacles for touchdown. Across commercial aviation statistics, ballooning consistently ranks among the safest categories of powered and unpowered flight.
